Why it is important to get out of your comfort zone

Why it is important to get out of your comfort zone

We all feel in a rut from time to time where we want to change a few things in our business or in life. But things appear to remain the same besides our actions. It may be due to taking action in our familiar state and staying in our comfort zone. Getting out of your comfort zone is essential for personal growth. It may be intimidating at first, but the rewards that come from pushing yourself to try new things can often outweigh the initial discomfort.

Doing so allows us to discover hidden talents and become more resilient. Additionally, it encourages us to take risks and explore new opportunities that may have otherwise been unavailable to us had we remained in our comfort zone.

What is a comfort zone?

Before we talk more about how to get out of your comfort zone, let’s find out exactly what is a comfort zone.

A comfort zone is a mental or physical state in which an individual feels comfortable or at ease, typically because it is familiar and predictable. This can be the result of repeated patterns of behavior or experiences, and can be positive or negative. Your comfort zone comes with feelings of safety and security. But staying within one’s comfort zone can also lead to complacency, lack of growth, and even boredom. Comfort zone is without the presence of challenge, risk or uncertainty.

Why is it important to get out of comfort zone?

By stepping outside of our comfort zones we are able to take control over our lives and create positive changes for ourselves. With that said it’s important to keep our comfort zones in mind when taking risks because comfort zones are what keep us safe and grounded.

This is why it’s so important to make sure that you’re pushing yourself in a way that is responsible and manageable. Making small incremental changes can be a great way to slowly build up the comfort of taking risks, while also ensuring that you don’t overwhelm yourself with too much change at once.

5 Steps to get out of comfort Zone

So here are some of these surefire ways to shake up your routine and get out of that dreaded comfort zone:

1. Take on a new challenge

Whether it’s an exciting class or starting a side hustle, or negotiating an existing deal, taking on something new will help you push past boundaries and gain experience and confidence.

2. Meet new people

Making conversation with strangers is uncomfortable. But it’s the perfect way to break free from your usual circle of friends and family members. Connecting with someone different can open up many doors for learning and growing.

3. Travel

Exploring a new place (even if it’s your own backyard) will help you open your mind and see the world from different perspectives. Plus, the stories alone are worth the trip!

4. Try something unexpected

Life is too short not to take a chance once in a while! Whether it’s asking for that promotion at work or making a new recipe that you never tasted before. Or accepting an invitation for celebration of events in people’s life you barely know. Or, taking on an unexpected hobby can be just what you need to get out of your comfort zone and gain some valuable skills along the way.

5. Be more present in now

Be more present in now and that means we are more aware of our feelings and thoughts. And that can happen when we take our attention off of our outside world for some time. We all have busy lives but still we can take time to know what we are feeling inside and what we are thinking. We can be more aware of our feelings and thoughts while doing simple daily chores, or waiting in line, or sitting on a desk or meditating etc. Being more aware and conscious of yourself is just like a shining torch light that cuts through the fog of our lives. This beaming light shows us where more action needs to be taken. And which direction we need to focus on more.

“All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present. Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry – all forms of fear – are caused by too much future, and not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of nonforgiveness are caused by too much past, and not enough presence.”

― Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now

Conclusion

At the end of the day, getting out of your comfort zone is all about learning more about who you are and what you’re capable of achieving. It’s an essential part of personal growth, so don’t be afraid to take some risks and challenge yourself! With dedication and resilience, you can achieve anything if you’re willing to push yourself just beyond your comfort zone.
